Then I met up with my cousin Stephen after work, who lives here in DC. We went out to eat at his favorite Mexican restaurant, then went back to his apartment to hang out for a while. Then we started walking back toward my hotel to see some of the sites. Even though I've been to DC before (a long time ago) I am amazed by the weight and gravity that you feel just looking at some of these buildings and thinking about their influence across the scope of this country (all the way to our home in Alaska) and abroad. Truly amazing. See some pictures below.
The Supreme Court
The U.S. Capitol Building
Each house of Congress occupies half of the building (divided by the Chambers in the middle). Pictured here is the U.S. House of Representatives (on the other side is the Senate)

Turning 180 degrees around from the steps of the Capitol you look out over the National Mall with the Washington Monument standing proudly at the other end.\
We sat in front of the Capitol and talked while the sun went down, then took some more pictures.
Making the most of my time here so far, tomorrow Stephen and I hope to rent bikes and ride down to the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, and the War Memorials. It's fun to be here, but I wish my family was here with me!
